You may have a few questions before scheduling. Here are some of the most common ones we hear.
What should I bring to my first meeting?
No need to have everything perfectly organized before you come in — we'll figure out what we need together. That said, a few things that make our first conversation most productive: recent account and investment statements, a general sense of your income and monthly expenses, and any goals or milestones you're thinking about (retirement timeline, a home purchase, college, etc.).
If you have existing insurance policies, estate documents, or a prior financial plan, those are worth bringing too — but don't let the absence of any of these stop you from scheduling. We're used to starting wherever you are.
What services do you offer?
Armstrong Advisory Group provides comprehensive wealth management services, including customized investment management, financial planning, and related consulting.
On the investment side, we construct and actively manage portfolios tailored to your goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon — primarily using ETFs and institutional mutual funds, with individual stocks, bonds, alternatives, and options where appropriate.
For financial planning, we work across investment planning, retirement planning, personal savings, education savings, and insurance needs. We can also help with Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) asset management for clients with charitable giving goals.
In some cases, we offer a more limited service relationship for clients who want trade execution and account support without ongoing advisory services.
How do you get paid?
We charge a monthly investment management fee based on the assets we manage for you — there are no commissions on investment trades. You can see our detailed pricing here.
How are you different from other advisors?
Armstrong Advisory Group is an independent, SEC-registered investment advisor — we work for our clients, not a brokerage firm or insurance company. As a fiduciary, we are legally and ethically required to put your interests first, always.
We combine active portfolio oversight with genuine financial planning, so your investments aren't managed in isolation from the rest of your financial picture. Our investment committee maintains and regularly reviews a curated list of securities, and your portfolio is monitored continuously — not just once a year.
We're also transparent about how we're paid and the conflicts that can exist in this industry. You'll find those disclosures in our Form ADV, and we're always happy to walk through them with you directly.
Where are my investments held?
Your assets are held at Charles Schwab & Co., one of the country's largest and most reputable custodians. Your accounts are in your name — we never take custody of client funds directly.
As your advisor, we have authority to place trades and deduct our advisory fees, but Schwab sends you statements directly (no less than quarterly), and you can access your accounts online through Schwab's portal at any time. If what you see there ever differs from anything we've shared with you, please let us know immediately.
What happens if my needs change?
Change is expected — and we're set up to handle it. Your account is monitored on a continuous basis, and we conduct formal reviews at least annually (or more frequently if you'd like).
Major life events — a job change, inheritance, home purchase, approaching retirement, or significant market movement — can all trigger an off-cycle review. We encourage clients to reach out whenever something significant happens, so we can assess whether your plan needs to be updated. The goal is a financial plan that stays current with your life, not one that sits in a drawer.
What is expected from me as a client?
Mostly, we ask that you keep us informed. That means letting us know when your financial situation, goals, or life circumstances change — a new job, a new dependent, an inheritance, a planned large purchase.
We'll also ask you to respond reasonably promptly when we need documents or signatures, and to review the quarterly statements you receive from Schwab. We don't want surprises any more than you do, and the relationship works best when information flows in both directions.
Beyond that, we want this to feel collaborative, not burdensome. Ask questions when you have them. Tell us what's on your mind. That's what we're here for.
Why should I consider hiring Armstrong Advisory Group?
We're a fiduciary firm that manages real portfolios for real families. Your advisor knows you, monitors your accounts actively, and coordinates your investments with your broader financial picture.
We're independent, transparent about our fees and conflicts, and experienced enough to handle the complexity that comes with life — retirement transitions, equity compensation, estate considerations, charitable giving. We're not going to overpromise. What we will do is show up consistently, tell you what we actually think, and keep your plan current as your life changes.
Do I have enough money to become a client?
Our standard minimum relationship size is $400,000 in investable assets. That said, minimums can be adjusted at our discretion — if you're close to that threshold or your situation warrants a conversation, reach out and we'll talk.
We work with individuals, high net worth clients, trusts, estates, and small businesses. If you're not sure whether you're a fit, the easiest thing to do is schedule a call. There's no pressure and no obligation.
What are your qualifications and credentials?
Armstrong Advisory Group is an SEC-registered investment advisor (CRD# 318662), and we act as a fiduciary to all clients.
Our team includes several CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professionals — Mark Schaffer, Andrew Haff, Paul Lane, Matthew Sczurek, and Cash Armstrong — as well as a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® (CRPC®) in Scott Wilson. Our Chief Compliance Officer, Leonid Berline, holds the Certified Regulatory and Compliance Professional (CRCP) designation from the Wharton School / FINRA.
Our leadership team — Michael Armstrong (CEO), Charles Zodda (Chief Investment Officer), Susan Powers, and Brendan Hayes — brings decades of combined experience in investment management and financial planning.
You can verify the background of any of our advisors at www.adviserinfo.sec.gov.
What is included in your fees?
Our management fee covers ongoing investment management — portfolio construction, monitoring, rebalancing, and security selection — as well as financial planning services when applicable, scheduled account reviews, and access to your advisor for questions between meetings.
We also operate under a Wrap Fee structure, which means normal securities transaction costs are included in our management fee rather than charged separately. You won't receive a surprise bill every time we trade in your account.
What's not included: fees charged by underlying funds (expense ratios), certain Schwab-specific fees like wire transfers or account transfer fees, and any insurance premiums if you choose to work with one of our insurance-licensed advisors.
How often will we review my financial plan?
Formally, at least once a year — though many clients prefer more frequent check-ins, and we're happy to accommodate that.
Between scheduled reviews, your account is monitored continuously by your advisor. We'll reach out if something material changes in the markets or in our analysis that affects your portfolio. And as noted above, significant life events are always a reason to connect outside the regular cycle.
You'll also receive Schwab account statements no less than quarterly, and you have 24/7 access to your accounts through Schwab's online portal.
Is there a fee for the initial consultation?
No. We don't have a standard consultation fee for an initial conversation. That first meeting is about understanding your situation and determining whether we're a good fit for each other — no invoice, no obligation.
If you decide to move forward and engage us for services, we'll put everything in writing before anything begins. You also have a five-business-day window after signing our agreement to cancel at no cost.
Do you only work with certain types of clients?
We serve a wide range: individuals and families, high net worth clients, trusts, estates, and small businesses. We don't specialize in a single narrow niche — our team has broad expertise across retirement planning, investment management, financial planning, and estate considerations.
When a client's needs fall outside our expertise (legal questions, complex tax situations, specialist insurance needs), we'll refer you to appropriate professionals. We coordinate with attorneys and accountants regularly and can connect you with the right person when needed.
How do you protect my privacy and data?
Client privacy and data security are taken seriously at every level of our operations. Your account data is held at Charles Schwab, which maintains institutional-grade security infrastructure.
Within our firm, access to client information is limited to the people who need it to serve you. We have cybersecurity policies and procedures in place, and we're transparent about the risks — including in our Form ADV — because we think clients deserve to understand how their information is managed.
We don't sell client data, and we don't share it with third parties outside of what's required to deliver our services or comply with regulations. If you have specific questions about how your data is handled, we're happy to walk through our practices directly.
